The AKC standard for the Boston Terrier Breed and some background information on the origination of the Boston Terrier Breed.  General information about the Boston Terrier Breed characteristics and personality.

The AKC standard for the Boston Terrier Breed is a smooth coated, short-headed, compactly built, short-tailed, well balanced dog and is either black, brindle or seal color evenly marked with white.  The Continental Kennel Club uses the same standard.

There are three classes of weight for the Boston Terrier Breed: under 15 lbs., 15 lbs. to under 20 lbs., and 20 lbs. to not over 25 lbs.

The Boston Terrier Breed originated by crossbreeding several breeds, most notably the English Bulldog and a white English Terrier (now extinct).  Although for several decades crossbreeding continued in 1891 the crossbreeding was not accepted any longer and the Boston Terrier Breed that we know today was produced.  Although there was problems getting the AKC to recognize the Boston Terrier Breed, they were finally accepted by AKC in 1893.

The Boston Terrier Breed is a highly intelligent, loving, playful dog with minimal m aintenance.  One of their largest problems is their big, beautiful eyes.  Because of their size, they are prone to injury and juvenile cataracts.  The Boston Terrier Breed cannot tolerate cold due their short hair and cannot tolerate the heat either due to his short muzzle he can get overheated.  The Boston Terrier Breed loves to play so care must be taken not to overdue.  They are also very sensitive to their owner’s moods which make them very good companions.  The Boston Terrier Breed  is obedient and well mannered so they adapt to any living situation.  An apartment or a house with a yard are both acceptable.  However, the Boston Terrier Breed is not an “outdoor” dog.  They  desire and need the warmth and comfort of the family.   The Boston Terrier Breed is an excellent family dog, having enough energy for children and yet quiet and patient when needed.

As far as training your Boston Terrier Breed, they are eager to learn.  Due to their high intelligence and sensitivity, just using your voice and body language will be enough  for your dog to understand what you are trying to teach him.
